What is metabolic health, and why
is it important during pregnancy?

Your body converts food into energy through a set of biological
processes known as metabolism. Good metabolic health means
your body can efficiently make and use energy.

During pregnancy, your hormones change and your body
becomes more insulin resistant. This means that your body

processes glucose differently and the way your body metabolizes
food changes. Maintaining stable levels of glucose can help you before getting pregnant, during pregnancy, and postpartum.

through pregnancy

Meet Emily Stong,
Levels Member

Emily Stong, 41, started using Levels after her first
pregnancy. Hear how and why she decided to join Levels
for her health.

What was your health like before
using Levels?

Emily: I had my first daughter when I was
36. At that time, I was in reasonable health,
but I developed gestational diabetes
during that pregnancy.

What was it like wearing a CGM
during your second pregnancy?

Emily: A gestational diabetes diagnosis is
bewildering and overwhelming for
women. In my second, with the CGM, I felt
more in control and empowered to take
care of my health.

Reduce blood sugar variability

This describes the “spikiness” of your glucose curve. Ideally, we want
glucose to remain stable and rise only slightly after meals.

Before pregnancy, insulin resistance has been linked to issues
conceiving. During pregnancy, your body naturally becomes more insulin
resistant in order to support gestation, which can make it more difficult to
recover from glucose spikes. Levels can help you understand how to
better maintain healthy blood sugar levels and avoid major blood
sugar spikes to support a healthy pregnancy.

Insight into the effect of individual foods

Hormonal changes before, during, and after pregnancy can affect your
body’s reactions to different foods. Levels can help you understand
howindividual foods impact your blood sugar, so you can keep your
glucose as stable as possible.
